Why Omotola Is Trending Again: PR, Strategy, and the Business of Staying Relevant
Dear You.
1. Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has a new project. That’s why you see her in the news. Strategically, she is trending. That’s what PR does. Many people right now have seen videos of her dropping her two cents on the trending topic of dancing or not dancing to promote Nollywood projects.
2. She’s activated a media tour. That media tour will put her face out again and refresh our minds and memory about her. Then some will Google to know what’s latest about her. Then they will see stories on credible blogs and news platforms; that her movie, Mother’s Love, was screened at TIFF last September and is now scheduled to hit our cinemas this March.
3. Documenting your stories on credible news platforms is more than publicity. It’s more than an announcement. It’s a life strategy.
4. She said she doesn’t believe in the dancing business—that project makers shouldn’t also become online promo dancers. She agrees with Kunle Afolayan that it is draining.
5. She has her strategy. She didn’t reveal it yet in the TV and radio stations she has visited. They didn’t ask. But I will tell you. She won’t dance, but she will pay people to do the promo. She will pay Ediale for press release syndication. As we approach the end of February, we will do a press conference. What will follow is the dispatching of press releases. We will keep feeding entertainment reporters with stories.
6. She will pay Warri Pikin and other influencers to do the dancing. Many influencers will speak and dance for the project.
7. Mother’s Love is a 102-minute Nigerian drama-thriller produced under RedHotConcepts and directed by Omotola Jalade Ekeinde herself.
8. The release date is strategic. International Women’s Day and Women’s Month fall on March 8th. There’s a PR strategy tied to that as well. I will reveal more afterwards.
9. For your information, Omotola now lives in Hollywood (Los Angeles). She has a plan to break into Hollywood. Not just her, a couple of Nigerian actors now live in Los Angeles, waiting for their big break. Maybe I should tell that full story soon.
10. But while at it, some are still coming to do or promote their Nollywood projects. Like Stella Damasus did recently with To Kill a Monkey. Like Omotola is pushing her own film now. Like ABK Joseph Momodu, who is in Nigeria currently shooting Part 2 of The Covenant Netflix series.
Your Nollywood Spotter,
Ediale
PS: Omotola did some music things. I am currently on her YouTube page watching some of her music videos. There’s this one by Clarence Peters, not bad at all. In this life, there are things we want to be, but time won’t allow us to be everything. Time didn’t allow Omotola to become a successful musician.
