“You Shouldn’t Be President After 60” — Ediale Sparks Debate on Age, Health and Leadership
Dear You.
The truth? You shouldn’t be the President of a country once you have passed 60.
Why do you want to be bothered about the issues of the people at that time?
That’s when all you should be doing is minding your business and your health.
Mentally, bodily, you are unfit to bother about other people’s matters.
Frequent meetings can stress out a 70-year-old.
Thinking is mental work.
Can you lead a nation without active thinking?
Our President, on global media, falling or stumbling is not a good thing.
I imagine the amount of stress he has acquired for himself. And I can imagine the doctor’s advice.
The late Buhari once told us about his “doctor’s advice”.
You don’t have to be a deep thinker to know that a grandpa shouldn’t be mentally and physically stressed.
This man is very old.
This man should prioritise his health.
But…
I guess there’s something about being the President of a country that’s worth more than these priorities.
Life is short, I know.
Before you say “hello,” you are already 60.
That doesn’t mean you must be President in your old age.
It’s a bad way to live.
It’s not an achievement.
I don’t want it.
I don’t want it for anyone I love or call blood.
I don’t want it for my children.
I will consider it a failure if, at such an age,
A child of mine is President of a country.
Life is more than being a President.
There’s no glory in that.
If anything, it’s you soiling your reputation.
Of all the great works this man has done,
What he will most likely be remembered for will be these falls.
I’d force my dad to resign
If he was the falling President.
We’d hold a family meeting and ask him to resign.
I’d personally resign if I was the falling President.
There’s zero glory in that.
I’d spend the rest of my life on earth enjoying somewhere far away from shame, disgrace, and stress.
If I have to choose between being this falling President and Pastor Adeboye, or any other old man with money and a glorious peace of mind that isn’t falling to the global camera lens—
Very frankly, I don’t admire a man that works all his life and can’t enjoy his old age. I quite frankly do not see you as “enjoying your old age” if, at this age, you are a President.
It’s another level of hustle.
It’s poverty.
It’s many unprintable words.
Forget it.
You have all the money in this world and you can’t enjoy it unless you are President? Then you are poor—again, regardless of your money. That’s not wealth. That’s having much money and a troubling life.
May we have peace and a really lovely old age.
Your Old Age Spotter
