The Danger of Chasing Glory Past Your Prime: A Reflection on Mike Tyson and Aging in Sports

Dear You,

There are things you don’t want to be doing in your industry after a certain age. It’s called growth.

On this platform, I have seen people adjust as well. There are things some people I follow online used to do that they no longer do. Yes. They grew.

You can say anything you want, but at this age of mine, I have learned enough to know that there is no SuperMan in the world. I have also learned that health is complex and number one.

Based on this knowledge, you can’t tell me Mike Tyson’s fight at old age is motivational or inspirational. If for anything, it is scary and threatening.

These guys aren’t invincible. Boxers have shown us the downsides to this sport. The great Ali had his old age in pain. His brain suffered from all the pounding he got at his youthful age.

Now an old man is still boxing and we are looking at the money. Naaaaa. May God not let me hustle to my grave.

There are many things Tyson should be doing now. Coaching, teaching, authoring, acting, and other things. Not boxing. Nothing honorable about it.

As an actor, you can act your way to the grave. You can be old and still be a comedian. But there is a reason you can’t even play football at 45. At 60, nobody will allow you to play pro football.

Your Boxing spotter,
Ediale

PS: God have mercy. Next thing, all the oldies start hitting the stage to knock off their brains? Even in his good age, he had to chew off Evander Holyfield’s ear. The fight was tough for him then. Why subject himself to the torture again?
