Dear You,
Seven Celebrities And The Seven Things I Can’t Forget About Our Meetings
4. Genevieve Nnaji
About 2 or 3 years into my journalism career, I was tasked with handling the PR for a top Relax spot in Surulere. This establishment, known as Club 10, transformed from a restaurant during the day to a club at night, located at Number 10 Adeniran Ogunsanya.
During my time there, we hosted numerous top celebrities to boost the spot’s popularity. One memorable night, we invited Genevieve Nnaji and Ramsey Noah to grace the occasion and influence people to recognize the venue as the place to be.
That particular night, I had the pleasure of meeting Genevieve. It was an incredible experience as I admired her throughout the night. Genevieve indulged in karaoke and thoroughly enjoyed herself with her guests.
While in the club with Genevieve, I eventually switched to my journalist role and conducted an interview. The interview was later shared on the internet, gaining traction as other online news platforms copied and reproduced it.
Pausing the clubbing scene, I approached her for an interview just as she was about to leave. Genevieve is undeniably stunning, even up close. I have great admiration for her.
When Saheed Apanpa returned from America and began acting in Nollywood, he had the opportunity to share a scene with Genevieve. My friend, unaware of Genevieve’s significance in Nollywood at the time, displayed no stage fright, doing what many rookies wouldn’t dare on set with her.
LESSONS: Not having a picture with Genevieve was a mistake; it goes against good PR. I won’t make such an oversight again. When encountering influential people, capturing a selfie or having someone photograph you together is a valuable and inexpensive PR material.
Your Genevieve spotter,
Ediale
PS: With only 4 of 7 stories shared, I plan to extend this series. I’m recounting these initial meetings from my early days as a Nollywood professional or reporter, during the period of learning the ropes.
